Small World, Big Dump

So I've now been in Bangkok since Monday and I'm not going to lie, it's the pits. If there was one place you would want to avoid in Asia (maybe an exaggeration..?) it would be here. It's like Magaluf just with more transgendered prostitutes propositioning you! Don't get me wrong, the culture here is amazing but as the Thai's put it so elloquently, much of it is "same, same but different". The street I'm staying on, Koh Sahn Road is synomomous with backpackers. I'm here just for conveiniance, it's a dive! You can't walk down the street without being offered a handmaid suit, rip off DVDs or a scabby rose from an even scabbier street child.
I've been getting used to the lonely traveller side of things. I met a guy on Tuesday who was from Camberley of all places (for those of you that don't know, that's pretty much where I live!) I befriended a group of three Welsh girls from Cardiff aswell yesterday, we went out for dinner which was nice but they are flying home tommorrow after 9 months on the road! They had all been to Llangranog (welsh village, look it up!) and we spent ages talking about it. It's strange to have flown thousands of miles around the world to have found people who were familiar with such specific areas! Small world!
I went to the indoor market at the MBK today to get myself a mobile, mission accomplished I wondered around taking in the sights and more noticeably smells of Bangkok. I leave for Vietnam on Sunday morning at 7:50 am local time, the airport in Bangkok is fairly new (about 3 years old) and the transport links seem pretty terrible at the moment. To be on the safe side I'll Skype at 5pm (local time, 10am GMT) and after I'm done make my way to the airport...albeit slowly.
